Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule and MEC Desbo Mohono officiate the “At the Crossroads Life Orientation/Life Skills Textbook Activation Launch, 10 Sep
On Thursday, 10 September 2026, the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Makgabo Reginah Mhaule, together with the MEC for Education in the North West Dr. Desbo Mohono will officiate the “At the Crossroads Life Orientation/Life Skills Textbook Activation Launch” taking place at Rutanang Primary School in the Boitshoko Circuit, Bojanala District in North West.
The At the Crossroads Life Orientation/Life Skills Textbook Project is a Department of Basic Education (DBE) initiative that commenced in 2017 to strengthen the teaching of Life Orientation and Life Skills through the development of high-quality, CAPS-aligned learning and teaching support materials for Grades 4–12. The National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) was mandated to mobilise funding and coordinate implementation of the project.
Eskom, NECT, GBVF, as strategic partners in this initiative, have supported the development and rollout of the “At the Crossroads textbooks”, including financial support for the printing and distribution of textbooks, co-branding, electricity safety content input, training of Subject Advisors and HODs in use of textbooks, development of training materials and video, project management and coordination, and stakeholder engagement at local level.
The activation launch marks the commencement of full implementation of the At the Crossroads textbook programme, commencing with the North West pilot. The project will be piloted in 18 schools within the Boitshoko Circuit, Bojanala District, benefiting approximately 9,064 learners from Grades 4–12. Approximately 14,714 learner textbooks and 250 teacher guides have been produced for the pilot, supported by educator capacity building for Subject Advisers, Departmental Heads and teachers.
